HoundDogStudios.com, LLC is a Colorado-based, family-owned company formed for the promotion of music, the promotion of home recording, the promotion of roots music and roots education, and the promotion of fun and musical creativity in general.

Our founder, Hound Dog Engel (as he is known by a few of his friends as well as by a few of his detractors), constructed his first guitar at age 8. Using cardboard and kite string and glue, he ended up with an instrument that sounded like hell but was superb at allowing him to learn a few basic chords. His grandmother (who referred to him as Barel) was so impressed with Hound Dog's sticktoittiveness that she made a deal with him whereby she would front the bucks needed for a brand new Sears Silvertone guitar and Hound Dog would repay half over time, "interest free." Some people (really a very few...well, in reality, just Hound Dog) have claimed this to be a modern-day version of Robert Johnson's legendary deal with the devil. 

Not long thereafter, a neighborhood game of Army was interrupted when Hound Dog (then, "General") caught the first appearance of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show while pursuing a faction of the German Army through a  neighbor's living room. The rest is history (mostly because the rest did, in fact, really happen.)

Years later, and after many-a-stint in local and regional "combos," and following many-a-Dylan concert, HoundDogStudios was founded in the shadow of the many greats who are our influences, which include Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Eric Clapton, John Hiatt, the Band and Muddy Waters. 

We at HoundDogStudios hope you enjoy our ever-evolving and ever-loving site, which includes pictures of instruments from the Hound Dog Collection as well as photos of some of those who enjoy our music-inspiring environment. We also hope you find our site to be useful as a tool and resource as you follow your own muse.
